Stop trying to answer questions
One of the greatest barriers research into evangelism has revealed is the concern over difficult questions and not feeling equipped or experienced to answer them.
I have great news for you. Stop trying!
You have THE answer, but you don’t have all the answers.
That’s why you pray yourself. When you have questions you bring them to God. So here is one simple sentence you can say and it’s a game changer “I don’t know, but let me introduce you to the person I bring all my questions to, Jesus”
It may be that your church is running an Alpha course which is a perfect space to explore questions and have conversations. Invite them to attend, or better still go along with them.
You may belong to a small group or there is a group within your church for those exploring faith, signpost them. Invite them to join you on Sunday for church so they can hear and experience for themselves. One last thing, gift them a Bible to read for themselves.
The Bible is a living word of God. It speaks to you and it will speak to them. 22% of non-Christians when asked ‘where would you go to find out about the Christian faith’ would go directly to a Bible.
It’s been a global bestseller for decades. YouVersion Bible app has been downloaded over 500 million times.
People open to exploring faith are looking to the scriptures, so be the person who places a Bible in their hands.
You don’t have the answers to difficult questions. In fact, I bet you have questions yourself, so don’t allow that to become a barrier to you sharing Jesus. Simply share your story. Ask them what they believe. Offer a simple invitation to know Jesus or invite them to join you one Sunday and that’s it.
Remember the most honest sentence you can ever say is “I don’t know” but don’t be afraid to follow that with an introduction to Jesus or the gift of a Bible.
